India is testing three coronavirus vaccines and is ready to distribute them

India is testing three coronavirus vaccines and already plans to distribute them to citizens, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a speech marking the national holiday of Independence Day.

Three vaccines are in different stages of testing. When scientists permit us, we will already have a production plan. "We have a roadmap for how the vaccine will reach every Indian in the shortest possible time," he said.

Modi added that under the national digital health care program, every citizen of the country will receive a health card, which will mark visits to doctors or pharmacies, as well as the drugs prescribed to them.

Prime Minister Modi also thanked those fighting the pandemic on behalf of the country. The number of infected in India exceeds 2.5 million.

Earlier, Indian companies Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech announced that they had begun the first phase of developing their COVID-19 vaccine. The Indian Vaccine Institute says it is launching the final phase of trials of the Covishield vaccine, which is being developed jointly by Oxford University and Astra Zeneca.

On August 15, India celebrates Independence Day. At midnight on that date in 1947, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru raised the national flag in New Delhi to mark the withdrawal of the British occupation forces.
