Intel is not in the brightest position right now. Although until a few years ago they completely dominated the processor market, both desktop and laptop, in the end, AMD is taking more and more of their cake. All of this is supported by the fact that Intel is still stuck on the 14nm process, while AMD processors have been on the more efficient 7nm process for some time.
Just a few days ago, Intel announced that 7nm processor-based processors would be at least 6 months behind schedule. Although they were supposed to arrive in the second half of 2021, it seems that we will not see them until at least 2022. The reason, as they say from Intel, is a problem with the process itself which slows down production.
As if this were not enough, the company also announced that there will be a slight delay with desktop processors based on the 10nm process. Although the company's revenue is enough to satisfy investors, such news allowed the price of Intel shares to fall to $ 53.69. Given that AMD shares do not stop growing, and last Friday were at $ 63.44, AMD for the first time has a higher value than Intel.
This is all bad news for Intel, but anyone following the market will not be surprised. The company has been trying for years to transition from 14nm to 10nm process, something that has been followed by numerous delays and problems. According to recent reports, there seems to be a chance that Intel processors will stay on the 10nm process for some time.
Finally, as if all this were not bad enough, Intel announced that Murthy Renduchintala, the chief engineering officer, would leave the company. Renduchintala previously worked for giant Qualcomm before moving to Intel. Temporarily, his successor will be Josh Walden, until Intel finds a suitable replacement.
This comes as part of the management changes that are taking place in the Intel team. There is a division of a large team that worked together, into smaller teams, in an attempt to pay more attention to detail.
